About Us
Hi – I’m Gregg Boethin, owner and designer of the Anyplace America website. I’m an IT professional living in a small town near the foot of the Strawberry Mountains in rural Oregon. Having spent most of my life surrounded by mountains, forest, and high desert, I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
I’ve always thought that topographic maps are great tools for anyone longing to get off the beaten trail. Even with GPS technology, a topographic map is still invaluable: to help you plan your next hike, or getting you back on track when your sense of direction fails you – as mine has often enough.
I recently read that are over 1 million named geographic features in America, which gave me an idea: a resource that would make it easy to learn more about these features. The result was Anyplace America, which gives site visitors access to topographic maps and additional information for nearly any place in the United States. Whether you are a hiker, camper, hunter, orienteer, or backyard explorer – you’ll find plenty of uses for topographic maps.
If you are new to this site, consider visiting the search tips page to see how easy it is to use the free Anyplace America database. Also, if you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.
Enjoy your next outdoor adventure!
